2020.10.12 11:29 passingthr00gh Request: Workhorse computer for my partner (actual photographer) and I (amateur wannabe) to edit photos and video.

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
This will be primarily for photo and video editing. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and Premiere Pro but the video software is changeable. We aren't gamers really, and we don't stream/upload live.
I have a separate work provided laptop which I use daily (boring office stuff) and my girlfriend has a Microsoft Surface tablet which she is using at the moment for her editing work as the screen is properly calibrated, but its capacity isn't amazing, hence the request.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
Around £800.00 all in.
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
To be honest we were thinking about what might be included in Black Friday/Cyber Monday sales so if anyone has any ideas what we might be able to get cheaper by waiting until then that would be cool, otherwise the next fortnight or so will be fine.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower, OS (accepting recommendations) and monitor. The main monitor needs to be 100% SRGB. At 27" it would need to have 2560*1440 resolution but anything bigger and we would be looking for 4K. We have a secondary monitor (IIyama 27") already, so this is going to be a dual monitor setup.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
UK - southeast (Brighton, Crawley, London)
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
We have our own mice and keyboards and a secondary monitor - nothing fancy. Like I said we aren't gamers so this isn't so important. Standard USB connections.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
We will take your recommendations on this, thanks!
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
SSD for the system requirements would be good. Also a DVD drive as my partner gives her clients their photos on disc sometimes. We have a small library of external hard-drives so storage for media doesn't need to be enormous. We also have a couple of SD-card adaptors so that isn't necessary either.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Not really - we will happily sacrifice the appearance of the build for the sake of performance to stay within budget.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
As above, we will take recommendations on the OS. If the consensus is windows, then 10 would be preferred. I have some very limited experience using Linux.
Extra info or particulars: As stated above, function over form really. My girlfriend is transitioning to becoming a full time photographer so it's important that the photo editing capabilities are the absolute priority in the build please.
If the budget is too low, we will sacrifice the monitor and just try to re-calibrate the one we already have.
We will very gratefully take any recommendations about anything else that might be needed.

1’: Kick off
17’: CLOSE! Nice move from United. Ighalo rounds the keeper but can’t quite find his feet to tuck it away.
26’: A nice team move sees Jahanbakhsh strike at goal from 20 yards. Henderson saves down to his right.
43’: Burn is shown a yellow card.
43’: GOAAAAAAL!! Fantastic free kick from Mata whose free kick picks out McTominay at the back post. He has the simplest of tasks in nodding home from 6 yards.
Halftime: Don’t let the scoreline fool you, it’s been a drab affair so far. Surely the second half can only get better?
50’: Maupay comes on to replace Jahanbakhsh.
67’: CLOSE! Henderson turns away Trossards close range shot. Great save. Pogba and Rashford then replace Ighalo and James.
72’: GOAAAAAAL! Van de Beek’s cute back heel plays Mata in. He twists and dummies to give himself a yard before placing it through the defenders legs and in to the bottom corner. Great composure from Mata.
79’: GOAAAAAL Pogba’s deflected free kick goes in to the top corner. It may have been going wide before a deflection from Veltman.
FT 0-3 was very generous to the attacking play on show tonight. Mata was the best player on the pitch.

2020.09.30 02:15 Dog-Lick-Gink Ⓙ Rebrand: Touch (30th Sep to 6th Oct, 2020) A detailed track choice rationale...

weekly playlist artwork showcase with accompanying description/theme
Ⓙ Rebrand is a 1 hour long curated Spotify playlist with new music, artwork and theme/title each week. This post details a song choice rationale for each track in this week’s Ⓙ Rebrand playlist in chronological order. Other information provided includes specific genre, production quality, artistic choices and potential applications for songs. All past weekly “Rebrand” playlists are saved on my Spotify profile and if you come across this post outside of the event date and want access to the relevant playlist, here is a link to the Ⓙ Rebrand: Touch (30/09/20) playlist, of which the following content is relevant.
Announcement (and disclaimer) for the homies: This is a massive week with a brand new tune from The Doppelgangaz, a decent sized hip hop segment and a strong theme curation. I have included some slower, more moody songs at the front end, followed by a larger hip-hop segment (in comparison to usual) and only 4 house/tech-house tracks at the end. I have taken a lot of care in planning this weeks curation, but due to limits of my time on the day of publication and the fact of my wanting to keep somewhat cloaked on the net for all of eternity, I have limited my descriptions on these tracks this week, but I do believe while they may warrant more recognition, they speak for themselves. This weekly Rebrand content is a marketing development personal growth project of mine to increase skills useful for my career, as well as express myself both artistically and personally. I hope this both shares something about me and gives you some interesting music to consume this week. Please note, the presence of a "Ⓙ" symbol next to the track title in the following descriptions denotes the importance to either the theme or strong personal significance.
My song choice rationale and track descriptions:
We’ve Never Met but Can We Have a Cup of Coffee or Something - In Love With a Ghost: [Genres: kawaii future bass, lo-fi beats] A nice introduction track by a personal favourite artist of mine. Not all of their discography is good, especially some of the newer stuff, but their top tracks are all pretty decent.
Unfold - Alina Baraz, Galimatias: Ⓙ [Genres: etherpop, alternative R&B, pop, electropop] A fitting track for the theme. This is a very sensual song, that is on theme for many reasons. These gorgeous pop songs certainly grow on you quickly. I've heard this song 36 times so it's worn off a bit after two and a half hours, but that wasn't all in one hit if you feel me. Stats taken from LastFM. Alina Baraz has a total of 275 scrobbles at the time of this publication.
Touch (feat . Paul Williams) - Daft Punk, Paul Williams: Ⓙ [Genres: mellow gold, soft rock, adult standards, folk rock, bubblegum pop, brill building pop, classic rock, electro, filter house] This particular song provided the inspiration for the week's theme and title. I love this whole album (Random Access Memories, by Daft Punk) and it won a Grammy award for best engineered album of the year back in 2013 or 2014 following its release. It’s not only mastered and produced exceptionally well, but it’s a work of genius art from the group. If you haven’t heard it and you have this idea of what Daft Punk are in your head, then you should give this album a listen. It’s not all what you would expect from the duo. This album is very important to me so please note that I may be somewhat biased, but I imagine that this is worthwhile content to anyone who not only enjoys music, but can still feel the art in this world. Peace.
Through the Eyes of a Child - AURORA: Ⓙ [Genres: Art Pop, Electropop, Folktronica, Synth-pop, Baroque pop] This is such a great meditative song with themes also relevant to this week's topic. It's a beautiful artistic description of the world, sung through a passionate voice that has to hit home when calmly listened to. There are some beautiful harmonies and vocal skill flaunted in this song. I've added it to a playlist that I very slowly and carefully build to accommodate similar such pieces. It's called: Ⓙ Frisson Fantasia. This is the kind of music that gives you goosebumps because it feels familiar to you and brings on sudden strong feeling(s) of excitement and/or fear. I would also like to note that I was also really keen to put a track called "Runaway" on this week's playlist (had I not limited it to 1 hour long). It's off the same album "All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend" by AURORA, released in 2014. This album also being considered for an AOTW feature.
Limerence - Yves Tumor: Ⓙ [Genres: art pop, escape room, chamber psych, freak folk] This interlude is kind of a sad one in terms of content, but again, I really like the dynamic and representation of time and a pair's real relationship being recorded and used for music. For some reason it really gets me, but I have used it as an interlude between the slower first half of the playlist and the latter more upbeat section that follows. This track also reminds us about sharing and social media. The evidence of leaving a digital trail so to speak. Relatable content.
Nightgowns - Tom Misch, Loyle Carner: [Genres: london rap, jazz pop, indie soul, uk alternative hip hop, indie r&b] Yeah, I have been enjoying Tom Misch lately and this hip hop tune is just so flash. Real smooth and groovy. For me this speaks about the troubles of love. There is a lot of relationship and love related content in this weeks list. A lot can be understood through music, if you let it guide you.
Datskat - The Roots: [Genres: political hip hop, conscious hip hop, philly rap, alternative hip hop, east coast hip hop, hardcore hip hop, neo soul] This album was brought to my attention via the track “Mellow My Man” suggested to me (<3 RJ) but I gravitated towards this track and the snare in this album just pops, turn it up homies. This tracks sound is really poppin'... it has to be the sound of the original hip hop culture that I have come to gravitate to. They are creative with their sound, style and lyrics. The flow is similar to that of a freestyle session and jazzy nature of this sound suits it well. There's a little Jazz solo at the end for the homies who want to spit their own rhymes, oh my, it's an all round keeper folks.
A Paris - Jazz Liberatorz: [Genres: jazz rap, hip hop] Jazz Liberatorz are another mob that I’m sure the gang can get around. I love the way this group compose music, it's always super stylish but unique. This track can also be used as a freestyle groove to follow on from the previous end to Datskat. I'm proud of this transition and this hip-hop segment in general. It's right on the money.
Fire W Fye - The Doppelgangaz: [Genres: jazz boom bap, soul flow, underground rap, alternative hip hop] This track was released this week. I would have to say that The Doppelgangaz are my current favourite alternative hip-hop group and this track has some differences to their district sound that might take some getting used to, but we have to pay respect to them. I love The Doppelgangaz style, it can be hard to understand and fully interpret without a lot of focus and concentration, plus the grooves are mostly really good. If you're new to this artist then please don't take this tracks sound as your only introduction to them, go give their hits a try. Being a big fan of this group, I had to put this heavier alt-rap banger on here at the end of the hip hop segment. I have to admit this seems like an aggressive track, and having been a new release I haven't spent much time with it, but I'm sure it'll grow on me.
Pulse - Maya Jane Coles: [Genres: uk house, deep disco house, minimal tech house, electra, deep house, house, electronica, microhouse] Yes, more Maya Jane Cole is being features, but trust me, it was the most suiting choice in comparison with some of the other tunes in the potential lineup. Pulse is a real mellow, groovy tune to start off the dance party vibes. I’m really digging this style and sound, very comforting and wholesome. I’m pretty sure the lyrics are “Don’t cry… don’t turn a manic down”...? This tracks sound is the equivalent a warming goo dancing its way into your ears and causing you to start moving...
Something In The Air - Bonobo Remix - Maya Jane Coles, Bonobo: [Genres: uk house, deep disco house, minimal tech house, electra, deep house, house, electronica, microhouse, downtempo, jazztronica, ninja] Getting slightly more “techy” now as we creep in to a tasty MJC/Bonobo colab. Just over 6 minutes of relaxing, house soundscape which I think really has some nice touches to it. This is the style of house that you imagine sitting in a high-end underground, pool-side party in the sun with quietly tracking in ambience. Rating Maya James Cole, can I stress this enough? Haha.
I Ain’t Gonna Be the First to Cry - Bob Moses: [Genres: canadian house, canadian electronic, indie soul, tropical house] Keeping things rolling with another more mellow tech-house track. I love the intro and the progression of this. It’s slower tempo, which I know a lot of people can find more relatable and therefore enjoy more. This whole album is great, but I’m slowly adding all the favourites to the Ⓙ Rebrand Archive 2020. Just "a link in my chain" of many songs homies. I like the feeling of this one and the sound is on point too. A nice melodic guitar lick and a groovy, slower beat, which gets a faster spin on it towards the end.
Grounded - George Kwali: [Genre: brighton indie tech-house] So, I had to put at least one tech banger on, because shit’s not all sad and slow in the world. This tech-house tune rocks hard, putting a fat smile on my face and gets the head boppin'. Only a few minutes long, but it has a nice dynamic with the use of a recording, a story-like engagement, then it keeps the energy present. Very well done. I rate this track but it is probably going to stick out like a penis in a paddock in this playlist.
fuck, i miss you - futino: [Genres: japanese chillhop, lo-fi beats] Another, spoken word, monologue style piece that I have enjoyed for several months now. It does address the complexity of relationships, but most of all expresses love and the feeling of not being able to engage in it. Something I’m sure we all feel to one degree of another during this time of isolation. Miss all the homies. Less than three. Ⓙ

2020.09.29 19:13 sjb2121 FNP (UK) putting rubbish in the wrong bin

I live in Brighton with my housemate and in January an environmental health officer knocked on our door (wasn’t in at the time he spoke to our other housemate) and had said that he had found multiple rubbish bags in the recyclable waste bin at the end of our road. There was an envelope with my housemates name on which is how he had come to our address. After that, a fixed penalty notice for £300 was put through our door saying my housemate had fly-tipped and to pay within 28 days. She emailed the local council and the response was that there was no formal way to appeal this FNP except to not pay it and go to magistrates court and dispute the fine there. She then got a 14 day warning letter saying the same thing about paying the fine or go to magistrates, but no mention of a criminal conviction charge. The other day she then received a letter summoning her to court for not paying the fine and warning of a potential criminal conviction with some other evidence enclosed (this was pictures general household waste). One piece of evidence was a third letter enclosed warning of the pending court case and mentioning a potential criminal conviction but she never received this letter. Upon reading through the paperwork, the solicitors had got the postcode to our address wrong.
There was also a mention of a cooker pot being thrown into the bin but no picture evidence of this, just some bin bags with general food waste in.
At the time when we moved in, our housing agency said that those were the bins to put our rubbish in, these were not labelled specifically as recycling only bins and there were no other communal waste bins available on our road, however one was put on our road within the last few weeks.
We also researched and on the UK government website it says clearly that households cannot be issued with a fixed penalty notice for putting rubbish in the wrong receptacle (which is what happened), but we’ve been issued with a fine for fly-tipping??
With the court date coming up, I was wondering if anyone would be able to advise what to do, as my housemate is happy to pay the fine but obviously does not want the criminal conviction.

Ⓙ Rebrand: Depth (30th of Sep to 6th of October 2020) A detailed track choice rationale...

IMAGE: weekly playlist artwork showcase with accompanying description/theme
Ⓙ Rebrand is a 1 hour long curated Spotify playlist with new music, artwork and theme/title each week. This post details a song choice rationale for each track in this week’s Ⓙ Rebrand playlist in chronological order. Other information provided includes specific genre, production quality, artistic choices and potential applications for songs. All past weekly “Rebrand” playlists are saved on my Spotify profile and if you come across this post outside of the event date and want access to the relevant playlist, here is a link to the Ⓙ Rebrand: Touch (30/09/20) playlist of which the following content is relevant.

  • Title/Theme: Touch
  • Length: 1 hour
  • Number of full length tracks: 14
  • Theme accompanied description: "Touch" ...We often take phenomena such as our sensory input for granted. (extended description in artwork)
  • Genres this week: Lo-fi, alternative R&B, electro, art-pop, indie soul, alternative hip-hop, minimal tech house and downtempo - the Ⓙ Rebrand playlist is organised into genres (within the Spotify app). If you can't see these labels in your app: go to Settings>DisplayOptions>Show unavailable songs ☑ )
Announcement (and disclaimer) for homies: This is a massive week with a brand new tune from The Doppelgangaz, a decent sized hip hop segment and a good theme curation. I have included some slower, more moody songs at the front end, followed by a larger hip-hop segment (in comparison to usual) and only 4 house and tech-house tracks at the end. I have taken a lot of care in planning this weeks curation, by planning it throughout the week, but due to limits of my time on the day of publication and the fact of my wanting to keep somewhat cloaked on the net for all of eternity, I have limited my descriptions on these tracks this week, but I do think, that, while they do warrant more recognition, I do think they speak for themselves.
Stats from LastFM.
It’s not only mastered and produced exceptionally well, but it’s a work of genius art from the group, and if you haven’t heard it, and you have this idea of what Daft Punk are in your head, then you should give it a bash, because it’s not all what you would expect from the duo.

Welcome to the second episode of the seventh season of this Western United in England series! Today we will cover the Premier League season up until the end of 2025.

First half of the season

Our August concluded with a fairly convincing win against Connolly's former Brighton, which helped us regain momentum going into September. And indeed, we went on a tear. It began by defeating Bournemouth 1-0, and then the following weekend demolishing Liverpool 4-1. We went on to win comfortably against Burton in the Carabao Cup, and concluded the month by winning 5-2 against rivals Watford.
Cook's breakthrough goal against Bournemouth
Another 5-2 win followed against Fulham to start off October. International friendlies then took place (to prepare for the World Cup this coming summer), where we would defeat the Netherlands and draw against Slovenia. Around this time, Horvat also accepted a contract extension with Australia to guarantee being their manager for what may perhaps be his most significant moment to date. League play soon continued, where we would continue our tear against Stoke City by embarrassing them 4-0. Defeating West Ham 2-1 the following weekend kept us in the driver's seat; however, we would lose to them just three days later to get eliminated from the Carabao Cup.
McCalmont, Cook, Pattison and Connolly celebrating victory against Stoke
Cook scoring the winner vs West Ham
After such a dominant month, the FA had nearly no choice but to choose a Western United forward for player of the month.

As it happened, Oliver Mottley-Henry won PL player of the month for October! This is the first time a Western United player has won such an award.
https://preview.redd.it/2s7vvugh8ro51.jpg?width=1282&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f34117654e8bfbe968ec46cbdaaabf8f3259570d
After our Carabao Cup loss, some momentum was brought back when we defeated Newcastle 2-0 to begin November. A 3-1 loss to Haaland's Arsenal followed, though, ending our over-two-month long winning streak in the league. Another international break then commenced, where Horvat would be utterly dismayed by the sheer ineptitude of his side, as Australia lost to (also Haaland's) Norway 5-0, and then Iceland 3-1. Horvat looked to gain retribution in the league, but returned to a 0-0 showing against bottom-table Sheffield. A pivotal 3-1 win against Spurs capped off the month though, which provided some hope for the rest of the calendar year.
Our December started off strong, with wins against Aston Villa and Leicester. However, we quickly fell behind by losing to Manchester United 2-0 at Old Trafford, Everton 3-1 at Wyndham, and Norwich 1-0 away. These games (especially the last one) were acute blows to our confidence as we transitioned into the last two games of 2025. Our next one--Liverpool--stood as a key game to determine whether or not we really mean serious business this season in terms of contending for Europe. This game proved to be a worthwhile endeavor for both teams, with Liverpool taking the lead early. However, a pivotal goal from Mottley-Henry late in the game tied it, and later in stoppage time, the ball was at his feet.

At the last possible moment, Harvey Thomas takes us home with the three points, yet again against Liverpool! Surely they are quite irritated by us by now.
Klopp in shambles
Sharing points against Bournemouth was our final act of 2025, which unfortunately left us in a very interesting position heading into the rest of our most imperative season yet.
https://preview.redd.it/piu57ns98ro51.jpg?width=1153&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1753961560551ab57a92e7b8aaad6064fec02e3f

Notable players so far

To no one's surprise, Connolly has re-acclimated himself very well to the Western United system. He currently ties for the lead in Premier League goals with 17, and ties for second place in assists with 10. And once again, Mottley-Henry has been integral to our success, and currently boasts 6 goals and 8 assists. Most likely to everyone's surprise, though, our other starting forward Sam Cook has scored more goals (7) than Mottley-Henry in the league so far; he also has 4 assists to his name. Horvat certainly knew what he was getting into by essentially doubling up our attacking prowess at the end of last season, and it has undoubtedly paid off.
As for our midfielders, Pattison, McCalmont, and Collins have all been quite solid. Our two natural CAMs--Alexander and Cox--have also shown great promise, indicating they should definitely be included in the squad more often in the future. Our defenders are also arguably having their best collective season yet, with McGinley, Morris, Hume, and Galloway (in his final year with us) all stepping up with success to assist Roberts in front of goal.

Transfer news

Initially, Horvat's plans for who to sign on a pre-contract were dependent on Galloway's eventual departure (i.e. a new right back was in order). However, the board all season has been insistent on Horvat signing a crucial forward. This sparks bewilderment, considering Connolly's recent arrival and our overall strongest point in the team being the front line. Alas, to keep the board content, Horvat searched for a forward. Not wanting to clutter the roster too much, he also decided against signing a new right back entirely, instead proposing a future formation change in a highly unorthodox move.
Horvat searched for a forward who could play on the wing and cover all areas of it, who looked for something greater in his career, and who brought a necessary perspective to the team. Surprisingly, the choice was easy.
Welcome, Pedro Alende Lopez!
Pedro Alende Lopez
After feeling distraught fighting for scraps at Huddersfield, Pedro has officially made history as Western United's first signing from a country other than the UK, Australia, or New Zealand. However, as he is being signed from a team within the UK (and considering the team's eagerness to compete on the continental stage), the board was not at all displeased, and neither were any other parties involved.
Starting next season, Horvat plans to implement Pedro into the squad at right midfielder as so:
https://preview.redd.it/2m8qg8vecro51.jpg?width=830&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=87c93749f2a6c90f3f324bef30928ce3598b1e5e
This is a modified 3-4-2-1, which can also be interpreted as a 4-4-2. Tradition indicates Western United should not waver from the 4-3-3, but necessity dictates change, Horvat argues. He believes this formation to be optimal in gleaning the best traits out of each individual player who has proven to most contribute to the team's overall success. Only time will tell how valuable this change will be for the club in the future.
In addition to signing Pedro, Horvat also looks to load off some older players who have nonetheless greatly contributed to the club over the years. Ferrier, Galloway, Melling, and Kitto will all say goodbye after this season, but not without respectable ceremony. Also, Okenabirhie has been transfer listed, as he never really got going for us in the top flight.

Youth academy progress

One player has been called up to the senior team.
Elliot Griffiths
Elliot Griffiths is currently very underwhelming, but hopefully various loan spells will help him grow as a decent defender.

Conclusion

That concludes this episode of this Western United in England series! The next episode will go over the rest of our third Premier League season as we seriously contend for European football.

Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Maybe down the line
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
Needs to run on wifi.
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
Not fussed will keep cost down without the rgb lighting
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
Nope
